Foster Journal

Lessons learned from the last 4 years of travel production Pt. 1

Bring in someone local.

In 2023 we had the great pleasure of working with journalist Mohamad Chreyteh on a week-long shoot around Beirut for the Discovery Channel.

From the government/military approval, to transportation, translation, and story perspective, that shoot wouldn’t be possible with a partner like that.

Even going to a familiar US city, a local DP, sound operator, or PA will always make things run more smoothly, or at the very least give you the good lunch recs.

The instinct is always to bring along people you know and have worked with, but much of our value in production comes from our networks around the country/world, and it’s always worth bringing on someone new in order grow that network.

CERAWeek 2025

Our annual pilgrimage to Houston, TX for CERAWeek by S&P Global is in the rear view mirror. Here are some numbers from our 8th (!) year filming behind the scenes at the world’s premier energy conference.

90+ interviews conducted
10 same-day edits delivered
3 continuously operating teams

This production always presents unique challenges:

Crew travelling in from France, the U.K., Boston, Chicago, and Atlanta.

A single on-site editor managing an endless inflow of cards and data while cutting daily deliverables.

A constantly shifting schedule accommodating some of the busiest people in the industry during their busiest week. With the hard work of our amazing crew and our great partners it always comes together.
